My DS is only 2 and a half but has constant tonsilitus and has got to have his tonsils out in a couple of months. Whilst I completely understand this is what must happen for him to get better, the thought of the operation terrifies me - he is so little....
Has anyone else had any experience of this or can offer any advice?

my ds2 had an op when he was 7months old but for something different
I was terrified as he was so tiny but
knew in my heart that it needed to be done

all i can say is that your ds will be fine
good luck

I used to work in a hospital where this op was routinely performed in children from 2 years upwards, and I have to say the young ones dealt with it so well you couldn't even tell if they had the operation.
I can understand how you feel my ds is 7.5 months and bumped his head this morning and I felt terrible, the thought of an op must be horrible, but it will cause him less pain in the long run and from experience I had my tonsils out when I was 5 and I had so much fun playing with the children in the hospital I can't remember it being painful, just hiding from the nurse when she brought the medicine around!

My great-niece had her tonsils out last year at 2yrs 9mths. Her quality of life has improved out of all recognition, she's no longer ill every couple of weeks, hasn't had to take a/b's and is now bouncing with health.
