dd feels a little hot and i got me one of those ear thermometers. It has no guidelines as to what is high or not. It was 37.5? Is that ok?

How old is your dd? 37.5 is pretty normal for a baby/toddler, so I wouldn't get too worried, maybe just remove a layer of clothing if she seems a bit uncomfortable, and keep an eye on her temp.

AllieBongo · 16/11/2006 11:18

thanks stringbean. she's 21mths.

Get her to have a drink as well. If it goes over 38 or she seem smore miserable than usual, get in there with the Calpol or Nurofen.

DumbledoresGirl · 16/11/2006 11:23

It depends on whether or not the thermometer is measuring the inner temperature or the outer. Most thermometers that do not get put into the body (ie into the mouth or the bottom) you need to add 1 C to the reading to get the proper temperature, in which case 38.5 would be high. But I am not sure if that is the case with your ear thermometer.

If you are unsure, I would go by other guidelines like whether she wants to eat, whether she is over sleepy, or whether she cries for no apparent reason.

Good luck.

stringbean · 16/11/2006 11:24

oops - 'more' miserable (aren't smores those marshmallowy things you get in the US?).

flamesparrow · 16/11/2006 11:26

It all depends on what her "normal" temp is too... DS is normal at about 35.9-36.2, so 37.5 is high for him.

she was vile yesterday, a usual symptom of something comIng. she seems ok in herself though. thanks friends
