Thyroid has grown, please help.

My thyroid (parathyroid) has grown alarmingly. GP took blood tests (which came back as 'normal')
I have had an ultra sound scan which has shown a mass on the right hand lobe. A needle biopsy will follow in 6-8 weeks.

I am almost demented with fear as well as feeling like hell. No energy, hair is falling out, heavy bleeds, mental fog, etc.

Please could anyone advise where to have an accurate thyroid test (I am in Scotland), what to ask for (T3 &T4) but anything else and how to cope waiting such a long time before the needle test.

Sorry you're feeling so awful, thyroid disease has some horrible symptoms, but please try not to worry too much.

Thank you so much for the link and kind words grumpyoldlady. I'm getting in a right state, probably due to the lack of information and my own ignorance of thyroids going wrong.

You've not been put on the 2 week cancer pathway, so hopefully that's a good thing.

You are entitled to copies of your scan and blood test results from your GP under the data protection act, why don't you ask for them? It's not unheard of to be told your results are normal when they're anything but. Quite easy with the Internet to slog away and work out what the results mean too these days.
Useful sites I've come across are Thyroid UK and Thyroid patient advocacy which both have forums with a lot of knowlegeable people who may be able to help you there. the British thyroid association which is the one the endocrinologists all work to has some useful information on their website including a link to the guidelines they operate to regarding thyroid cancer, which I found very useful earlier this year when I got put on the cancer pathway following a thyroid scan.

In sorry to hear this. I can also recommend the British thyroid foundation, the charitable side of the British thyroid assiciation. There are some numbers listed that you can call- volunteers of people who have been through similar issues.

Thank you all for your advice. PoshPenny, I have just had a telephone consultation with my GP and have in fact been put on the cancer pathway. I'm not feeling very brave at all right now.
The test which has concerned my doctor is the thyroglobaline (sp?) which is more than 2000. They did not test T3 or T4 but the TSH reading was 1.92 so normal.
