Costochondritis/Tietze's Syndrome

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I'd never even heard of it until I was diagnosed with it today after 5 weeks of pain in my left ribs.

The go-to treatment seems to be anti-inflammatories which I can't take due to having IBD.

The doctor didn't really give me clear instructions, just that it will clear up in a few weeks' time and that I should rest and not do anything to provoke the pain.

I'm really ugh about this because I want to be out in this nice weather cycling and running. I make quite an effort to be active and keep fit as I think this is an important factor in keeping my colitis at bay, so I'm loathe to 'rest' for 6-8 weeks.

Can someone cheer me up by telling me they've had it and it went away easily?

Hi there
I started to suffer with an achey left rib earlier this year (following a cough/cold.) After seeing a couple of different GPs I was eventually diagnosed with Costo/Tietze (I did have a chest xray, lots of blood tests and an ECG to rule out other possible causes - all were clear). Unfortunately I am still sufferering - and whilst I am not in terrible pain, the left rib (towards the centre of my sternum) is still quite tender. Nothing has really helped for me - I have tried anti-inflammatories, cold compresses etc but it is still lingering. I have recently been suffering with some gastro probs too so I am awaiting an appointment for further investigations here too (not sure if there is any link with the rib pain - we shall see!) Sorry I can't offer any positive comments - from what I have read Costo does normally clear up within a couple of months. Good luck and hope you feel better soon x
