I mean real agony... I cant even stand up straight... its my 1st one in about 18 months, and only my 2nd in about 2 years...

Oh God - poor you - as if you don't have enough on your plate.

Doesn't sound normal tbh.

Can you ring NHS direct? They may be able to help.

BudaBeast · 14/11/2006 06:14

Have to go and shower now - we are an hour ahead. Will check back.

GeorginaA · 14/11/2006 06:27

Quootie: I used to get them so bad that I would throw up monthly - couldn't take paracetamol because that would stimulate the gag reflex somehow.

I've got the mirena now (have a whole different set of problems with that, but that's another story ) but at one point with the GP I was prescribed different pain killers and muscle relaxants.

The pain killers weren't that good (for some reason I blocked the stomach pains but I had lower back pain/kidney(?) pain with them instead - which freaked me out so I stopped them) but the muscle relaxants did seem to make a big difference. It still hurt for the first 24hrs but I could still function - does that make sense?

Anyway, I think what I'm saying is - go to the GP

BudaBeast · 14/11/2006 06:35

How are you now?

The fact taht the pain is more in one side sounds to me like it could be something else (but I am no doc).

Do you have painkillers?

Can you keep them down?

Have to go now to get DS up for school. Hope you're OK.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 14/11/2006 08:05

Quootiepie

I would go to the GP and if the GP cannot help I would seek an urgent referral to a gynae.

Quootiepie · 14/11/2006 08:26

took 2 paracetamol and fell asleep eventually... pain has eased now. Will go to GP this afternoon I think, if I can get hold of DH!

Hi QP - I get nasty pains like these and have found that Buscopan helps a bit (it's an antispasmodic so helps ease the cramps) - you can get it over the counter - but it's worth going to the GP because they can probably give you something that's stronger and more effective!

Noticed your other thread (sorry to read about that) but I have found, unfortunately, that stress often makes my period pain worse (perhaps it's the perception of the pain, I don't know!) so if you do get to the GP, maybe it's worth having a chat about everything else aswell.

Hope you feel better soon.

DettaJnr · 14/11/2006 13:09

Sorry you feel so bad Quootiepie. I can symathise as this is what my periods were like until I had my first baby!

I found that a hot bath and twice the dose of Nurofen helped.

Could you be miscarrying?

Quootiepie · 14/11/2006 13:14

how long would you bleed for if miscarrying?

OP posts:
tribpot · 14/11/2006 13:18

The pain on one side doesn't sound very periody to me - if there's a chance you could be pregnant I'd also be a bit worried about the possibility of an ectopic, I think that normally starts a pain in one side? (symptoms ).

Can you get to the GP, pref without dh's assistance?

MrsChristmasboo · 14/11/2006 13:19

This sounds exactly like my first and second period after ds3. Was in agony. Dh nearly called emergency dr as i just couldnt move. All down lefthand side. I ended up taking Nurofen as it has the painkiller and anti thingy in it. Am dreading my next one due anytime now!

Go to dr and they can give you stronger painkillers if it gets no better.

Quootiepie · 14/11/2006 13:20

the pain has eased now... but it wasnt a bad cramp, it was definate sharp sharp pain on one side. Would it ease if ectopic?

OP posts:
MrsChristmasboo · 14/11/2006 13:31

I think the pain gets worse from what i've been told.
But im sure someone can answer that a bit better.

DettaJnr · 15/11/2006 15:48

Quootiepie, how are you feeling today? (My two girls were very poorly yesterday and didn't get back to netting, sorry I didn't answer your questions. Antibiotics have kicked in today so they are a lot better.)

2ndtime · 15/11/2006 20:33

An ectopic would ease, if it ruptured!
How are you now Quootiepie?

Quootiepie · 15/11/2006 20:35

oh, feel heaps better thankyou. Still sore, but normal sore... DO you think I should get it checked out? Or do you think it was just bad period pain... bearing in mind I have very bad periods, but that was off the scale!

OP posts:
Quootiepie · 15/11/2006 20:35

would you bleed with an ectopic?

OP posts:
2ndtime · 16/11/2006 08:11

You would be very ill by now with a ruptured ectopic. Sounds like the period from hell. Poor you.xx

DettaJnr · 16/11/2006 09:26

Get it checked out to put your mind at rest. I always get a bad one after I have flown. Bit weird I know.

Hope you're feeling better today.
