I had the Depo injection about 4 weeks ago, I had it prior to having my sons and didnt have a period for years. This time I have been bleeding for over two weeks now is this usual? Its driving me potty and v.hormonial. [grumpy face]

I bled for the 1st few weeks then it was fine. But after 6 months I started to bleed for the last 6 weeks each time. Stopped because of that it was horrible

oooh, not sure how normal it is, but when I went on depo (6 years ago) the GP did warn me some people will bleed loads and need to come off it.

As it was, I was on it for 9 months, did not bleed once, and when I came off it it took a further 9 months for my AF to return..

(I came off it as I believe it contributed to my hormonal depression / PND etc...)

I bled for a couple of months and refused to have this again. I turned into an emotional wreck, it was horrible.

Friend of mine had the depo injection and bled non stop so sounds a pretty normal reaction.

I had the Depo injection twice and didn't bleed at all. Thought this was great until I became allergic to my husband

thanks for everyones advice, after having 2 babies in 14 months I thought I was going for the best option, but am so over emotional and am blowing everything out of proportion with poor DP think I may have to look into an alternative (I was thinking about the implant in your arm, if anyone has had any experience of this would be appreciated)

I have had one spell of bleeding in 9 months, which was non stop for 2 weeks. However,I feel down, depressed and hormonal on it, so will not be having it again. Also, my weight is not coming off, despite loads of exercise and eating sensibly (most of the time )

TiggersBestFriend · 14/11/2006 08:43

I enquired about the implant after having my DS and was told that they no longer do this??
Would the coil be appropriate for you? Have been wondering about contraception myself. DS is 13 weeks and I have gone on the pill again but would like something a bit more conveniant too.

mummyplonk · 15/11/2006 18:33

I asked my GP Tiggers about the implant and they said they dont do it but I would have to go into the centre of town to the family planning centre to have it done ((shudder at the thought with 2 babies)), maybe there are only limited places that can do it? any exp anyone???

Hi
I was on Depo for 6 years then came off it to have my children...went back on and I had continual bleeding for 6 months switched to Mirena coil which is fab - no periods at all

mummyplonk · 15/11/2006 19:47

6 months! bugger, sorry to ask the inevitable but did it hurt having the coil fitted? I dont know much about it, do you have to be measured first or is that for the Diaphram , and can the local doctors do it?

yes - i think i beld for about 3 mths - very light though.

saltire · 15/11/2006 19:56

I started on this in March. My Gp's words to me were as follows
"Given that you get such severe pain and bleeding from your fibroids, then this is the thing for you.".
I got it on Wwednesday and bleed very very heavily - like a packet of towels a day, lying on bath towels in bed heavy, for 6 weeks. During that time i was also very ill with a virus, was bedded for 2 weeks. i don't know if that had anything to do with it. The pain had stopped though.
Anyway i perevered, and have had it every ten weeks since. I had my latest one in October, and have had no bleeding for about the last three, except for some very light spotting towards the end of the 10 weeks
