Rectal prolapse? Almost certainly TMI

Should probably have name changed for this but what the hell
I had a gastric sleeve (weight loss surgery) op 3.5 weeks ago & have obviously been eating very little since then.
I've had problems with constipation for my whole life & it's been very bad for the last month.
I've been using Laxido, Lactulose, laxatives, trying to drink a lot etc.
now I'm having horrible problems. Basically my bum 'wants' to poo, so I go & sit on the loo. It's very very painful (I have a fissure and piles too) which means my bottom sort of 'clenches'.
However, it feels like there's a big 'motion' coming out but only tiny bits of poo coming out.
Even after wiping it feels like I'm still pooing, and it feels like I need to poo all the time.
On several occasions I've soiled myself - I'm crying typing this.
I think I have a prolapse, not complete but certainly one that comes out while I'm on the loo.
Obviously I'm going to go to my doctor, hopefully I can get an appt this afternoon
Just wondered if anyone has had a prolapse & recovered. Dr Google tells me I'll need surgery. Not happy about that!

I'm 12 days post op for bladder and bowel prolapse (also known as Anterior and Posterior repair (perineumoplasty also but kind of unrelated)

I also had severe constipation pre op from the rectocele (

Germgirl · 04/06/2015 13:58

I don't know what it is really. It's not 'out' all the time but when i try to 'go' it just feels like there's a massive poo trying to come out. It didn't help that for days I thought it was a massive poo & was straining trying to pass it. I think I've turned my bum inside out!
I know what you mean about a pile, I've had that a lot & to me it feels like (oh god, TMI warning) a bit of sweet corn or something that's 'stuck' when you finish pooing. The feeling I have at the moment is much 'more' than that.
I have a constant feeling of wanting to 'go' but if I sit on the loo everything clenches up because it hurts so much :(
Thank you so much for replying. I hope you recover soon

Another thing. I'm finding it difficult to wee. The urge is there but I can't go very often. It's like something is blocking the way :(

Bloody doctors is closed for training!! I'll have to call tomorrow :(

OP posts:
Shakey1500 · 04/06/2015 14:09

Poor you. Then definitely ask for referral to urogynae. Problems with urge to pee can be a sign of a cystocele (posh name for bladder prolapse Grin )

Best to get checked anyhow and NO straining!

Germgirl · 04/06/2015 15:11

Spoke to 111 and the bariatric nurse. They both told me to go to the UCC. so in sitting waiting at the moment. :(

Shakey1500 · 04/06/2015 15:25

That's good in a way? Hopefully you'll be seen soon and may get a referral sooner Thanks

Germgirl · 04/06/2015 16:08

Thanks Shakey I've been triaged. Waiting to see a doctor now. It's horrible describing what's happening but I suppose they've heard worse :)
Thanks again for your support.

Oh yes indeed, tell them like it is!

Shakey1500 · 04/06/2015 20:45

How goes it Germgirl? Hope you've been seen at least.

alteredimage · 04/06/2015 22:40

Get a referral to a urogynae, and look up APOPS. They have a Facebook group. Lots of discussion about pee and poo, so fascinating if you are suffering but feel you can't share with friends and family.

There are surgical solutions but success in part depends on you educating yourself and learning how to manage symptoms.

QOD · 04/06/2015 23:07

Ah honey.i was wondering how you were.
Sometimes a Vaselined Finger is required Blush

Germgirl · 05/06/2015 06:25

Bloody hell!
Well, I was partially right. I do have a small prolapse, as well as the worst set of piles the doctor had ever seen. I'm weirdly proud of that one
But, the massive "thing" that I thought was my insides being pushed out? That was poo. Pure and simple poo.
Basically I had a bum full of concrete.
So, I was admitted to the obs ward, had 4 (FOUR!) glycerine suppositories. Then, when they had negligible effect, I had an enema.
All that did was make a load of watery stuff come out, but the concrete remained. So they did another enema plus some "manual manipulation"
That had slightly more effect but there was still concrete there.
Plus, they insisted I had to keep the enema 'in' for 45 minutes. I managed 10, was begging to be allowed to go to the loo as I was convinced i was about to poo the bed.
The nurse finally said I could go but I didn't quite make it :( the bathroom was a no-go zone for quite a while. And I had to throw my knickers away.
Luckily i was wearing a gown, otherwise my clothes would have been in the bin too. Blush
After that, another gloved finger had a feel around & the doctor announced I had cleared a fair bit of it. I 'went' again & it was like pooing a tennis ball! But luckily that was the final obstruction.
One more finger up the bum & I was free to go!
Got home at midnight
Doctor says the small prolapse will hopefully heal now I'm cleared out & I have to make sure I don't get bunged up again. Easier said than done! I was already taking laxatives, but I've doubled the dose.
My bum is in tatters
Hello QOD :) how are you?

OP posts:
Germgirl · 05/06/2015 06:36

On the major plus side, I weighed myself when I got home from hospital. That poo weighed 4lb! :)

OP posts:
WipsGlitter · 05/06/2015 07:00

Poor you. You might want to try movicol it keeps things moving so you don't get bunged up. The others are stool softeners.

And yay on the weight loss!!!

Germgirl · 05/06/2015 07:04

I'm already on Laxido (same as movicol I believe) and Lactulose, I've doubled my dose of Laxido. Hopefully that'll sort things out.
Yes, the 4lb weight loss was very pleasing :)

OP posts:
Shakey1500 · 05/06/2015 07:12

Ah you must be so relieved (natural pun!) Yes I can well believe it weighed 4lb Grin

Eastpoint · 05/06/2015 07:16

Nothing constructive to add but poor you & thank heavens you went to the hospital. Hope you are back to normal now.

Germgirl · 05/06/2015 07:23

Thanks Shakey
East you're so right. I was moaning about my GP being closed but I'm glad they were. I don't think my GP would have realized what was going on & he'd have probably just told me to up the laxatives.
I'm very relieved, just terrified it's going to happen again!

You might have a look at this.

Essentially our bodies were designed for squatting not sitting.

I hope you are feeling better. It sounds horrific.

QOD · 06/06/2015 18:28

Urgh! A real live poo baby Grin

Germgirl · 07/06/2015 13:08

Revolting isn't it QOD ? :) I'm living on laxatives now. And scared to eat anything!

OP posts:
Germgirl · 07/06/2015 13:10

alteredimage thank you for that. I knew we were supposed to squat, I do have a little footstool that I sometimes put my feet on.
No mere furniture or position would've helped this monster though. It needed intervention! :)
