Hope I get some advice on here, I was recently diagnosed with under active thyroid whilst being treated for the menopause, I am taking 50 micrgrams of Levothyroxine and 0.65mg Premarin, my weight has rocketed, just this week I have gained half a stone, I am hardly eating anything and when I do its mainly fruit, this is getting me really down, I had put on weight before I was diagnosed, I was a size 8 only 3 years ago now I am a big 16 and getting bigger, Help anyone please I feel really down about this! Thankyou in advance.

Hi, it doesn't sound like you're on the right dose. Your levels could have deteriorated further thus needing a dose increase. I'd go to gp, ask for a test and make sure your Tsh is below 2 (1 is best)

There's no way you are properly replaced on 50mcg. As Clarella says, your TSH should be at least below 2. It sounds as if your doctor may be happy if your results are within the reference range rather than making sure you are optimally treated.

This book is very good at explaining everything as well as describing that most people feel best below 2 (infact lower in the book) and is helpful to show a gp as it is a BMA book.

I'd say to gp I still have symptoms, could I have a review and try a higher dose to see if this helps.
