I am terrified that I have it and could use some advice.

Thank you!

I noticed it first on my face, I'd been travelling in the US and my face had tanned unevenly.

A few months later small white patches began to appear on the backs of my hands and on the arches of my feet. These patches have grown bigger over time. I now have them everywhere - elbows, knees, face, etc. They fade in winter as the surrounding skin isn't tanned, then reappear in summer. The edges of the tanned bits are quite dark.

The skin itself doesn't feel any different, it's just the colour. I was extremely self-conscious initially, but am less bothered now. Tbh there are far worse things to be suffering with than this.

Thank you - where the patches completely white (completely devoid of pigment)?

No they're pink, like untanned skin colour. The edges of the dark parts go a bit darker so the patches stand out a bit more iyswim.

The hair on the pale patches loses colour too, so half my eyebrow is white, as are my eyelashes on one eye. Easily disguised with make-up Wink

I have vitiligo, it started when I was 7 with a patch in the middle of my chest. Then I got some patches on my knees, underarms and groin area. My patches are pure white and I've never had the other symptoms you mention (spots, irritated skin). It doesn't bother me at all - it's not very noticeable, and has got better as I've got older.

Thanks everyone. I saw my GP again today about it and he isn't convinced that it is vitilgo because he said it doesn't fit the pattern and the skin is only slightly hypo pigmented (it hasn't lost all the pigment and isn't really noticeable to anyone except me). I am on the wait list to see the dermatologist again.

I may post some pictures of my skin on here later to see what you all think.
