I have just been diagnosed today with this condition, I have tried to read up a bit on it, I would be grateful for any information from anyone else with this condition, I am 51 yrs old, I quite suddenly put a lot of weight on and I was always tired, I thought it was the menopause, I had a blood test and my Doctor rang me to tell me to pick up a prescription tomorrow morning, thanks for any advice in advance!

You should find you start to feel a lot better once you're on the medication. Hopefully they'll do blood tests to check you are on the right dose, as you've probably started on quite a low one.

Make sure the receptionist gets you to fill out an exemption form as you won't have to pay for thyroxine or any other prescription medication ever again!

GP will want you to have another blood test in about a month to make sure you're on the right dose. Then a tablet a day for life with six monthly or annual blood test.
