Has anyone recovered from an ankle sprain without long term effects?

Two weeks ago I sprained my ankle quite badly falling down a step. Since then I have heard so many horror stories from people who have done this, and say their ankle has never been right again. The point of this post is this....
I love my shoes. I have several pairs of gorgeous heels which I would struggle to think I might not wear again. Has anyone made a full recovery and got back to wearing heels again?
I didn't do this wearing heels btw.
I am doing exercises like balancing on the affected leg. The swelling and bruising is going down, but very slowly.
Any encouragement would be gratefully received.

I'm one of the ones who didn't recover so have no business posting on your thread! But it is early days for you, so don't panic yet. My advice would be to get it checked out, sooner rather than later, and definitely if you are still in pain after 4 weeks. It might be a bit early for exercises - I would rest it as much as you can while it's still swollen.

This has happened to me a few times (both times falling down a step) and yes after a long period of time (months) it did improve. I think it was about 3 months though before it stopped hurting and then longer for me to feel really confident about it. However, I am a bit nervous now of wearing high heels (although I was wearing flat shoes both times I fell). Apparently I do have some hyper mobility so that might be why it keeps happening to me. I guess I am saying don't worry two weeks really isn't very long at all!

Hi I sprained my left ankle about eight years ago due to running too far too soon and in the wrong trainers. I would consider myself fully recovered now but have found although my ankle is better if I do have something go wrong or injure myself it's always on the left side of my body! That side must just be weaker.

Fwiw I tend to choose comfort over style these days when it comes to shoes. High heels kill meSmile

It's definitely early days for you in terms of recovery. A bad sprain can take around six to eight weeks to heal and it will feel weak for a few months.

Ok thanks everyone. I will try to curb my impatience. I am so cross with myself. Could be worse though, so c'est la vie.
