Hello folks. In May I went to the Doc with anxiety and my BP was sitting at around 130/95. My BP is normally around 120/70.

I had it investigated and they could find nothing wrong with me. I put it down to Anxiety and panic attacks.

Anyway.... since H and I split my symptoms disappeared although I hadn't had my BP checked again. Until I went to the out of hours Doc in AGONY last weekend. Turns out I had a kidney infection.

But my BP was 140/100!!!!!!
The Nurse suggested that I may have white coat syndrome. But....

Is it possible I have high BP and need medication???????

I know I drink too much but adding up the units I probably drink about 35-40 units a week. I'm 28! Is that enough to give me Hypertension????

Help?

Apparently your kidneys regulate the flow of blood around your body, so if you had an infection that would cause you high blood pressure. My dd has to have hers checked every 6 months after contracting a UTI she now has damage to both of her kidneys. I think you need to go back to your GP and insist on more tests, probably isn't an issue at the moment but better safe than sorry!!

Toothache, sorry to hear of your troubles.

Anxiety and stress can elevate your bp. Pain is another cause. The nurse may also be right, you may have a touch of white-coat syndrome.

It's best to have your bp checked on a regular basis over some time to see what your baseline blood pressure is. Usually the GP would recommmend ways to reduce your bp naturally. ie.cutting down on salt, exercising, stopping smoking, loosing weight, etc. Medication is usually introduced when bp hasn't improved with these changes.

Your weekly alcoholic intake would definitely have a significant effect on your blood pressure. Any chance of cutting down?
If you are worried, to back to surgery and get it checked out.

my Blood pressure was 145/100 - didnt even know i had probs with BP but it was down to my Pill which i cannot have it for the rest of my life (im on the coil now). I was diagnosed hypertension at the age of 28 too. i was never given meds either but has to have a ECG (to check my heart was still going ok which it was after i was taken off the pill).

Stress, anxiety and drink can cause high BP
