Actually one thing is bothering me. How can they tell that i have severe dyskaryosis from a smear? I am actually worried when they actually get to look at me it is even worse!!! I guess that is just my brain playing games with me.

Hi Peanuts, yes I did have a biopsy, was 12wks with dd at time - v scarey. My gynae could see the lesion when she examined me They were particularly concerned as I was pregnant and they weren't sure how it would affect the growth rate - apparently it can go either way.
Think the important thing to tell yourself is that they've found it, it is pretty easy to treat. I know it's scarey and I know I was lucky in many respects but better to know now than not to have found out til much later. Fingers crossed let us know what happens.

Peanut, you CAN ask your GP to prescribe a Valium or tranq for you to take before the procedure. I can't see where they'd have a problem w/it, so long as you are not driving yourself there or back.

Did a world of good for me!

Just take it about 30 mins. before your appointment time.

Good luck, peanut!

Keep us updatd.

The reason for the colposcopy is to check the findings from the smear .. because quite a few times they get the category of dyskariosis (abnormal cells) wrong .. they're working from a very few cells ..

please try not to worry .. take some deep breaths ... you are doing the right thing ... and the worst that will happen is you may need a very simple procedure to excise the cells that are changing .. remember this is a pre-warning that in a decade or 2 they might turn into something nastier

My G.P isn't very patient! I went to see hear to discuss the results of my smear as the letter i got scared the hell out of me. She just said not to be silly and that she refers dozens of patients to the colposcopy clinic. Nice eh! I scared myself to death yesterday when i read up on some old threads. Someone had a cni3 and had a carcinoma in stutu???????? (spelling wrong!) I do myself no favours reading horror stories!

Hi Peanuts, I had severe dyskaryosis too (CINIII/borderline carcinoma in my case). Coposcopy is really not bad at all. It is like a slightly more time consuming smear. They just dye your cervix & then peer at it through a big microscope. Really nothing to worry about at all. I also had a biopsy which was like a small sting, again not alarming at all.
I went on to have a large loop excision, which I would strongly recommend you ask to be done under a light general. However, 8 years on and multiple checks later I am still all clear & that is the most important thing.
Please don't worry about it. The most important thing is that you were caught in good time.
Will be thinking of you on Friday.

Peanuts I got my letter about my abnormal smear on a Saturday morning (yes my surgery closes for the weekend) when I was driving to the country for a weekend away at one of my best friend's weddings .. needless to say it ruined our weekend because the letter was so non-specific

gps can be crap too

but seriously DO NOT let it worry you unduly .. not long to wait now

Thanks all. Met up with pal this afternoon and she actually cheered me up no end. I think i feel worse when I am on my own - time to think to much i think.

Hi People. Well, I've been!!!!
I was so scared and was visibly shaking. The doc said the abnormal cells were localised and he gave me a loop excision. Didn't really feel anything at all. Had a local anathestic. Bleeding a little but just so relieved it is all over. I have cramps in my tummy and back - very like period pain. Thanks all of you for keeping me going these past few weeks. peanuts x
