Heavy period question (tmi)

Iv always had irregular periods but they've always been pretty normal. 5days ish, normal bleeding.

I came on though two days ago and have flooded right through tampons, pads AND clothes. all day too non-stop, probably changing every hour-2 hours. ???? its really taking it out of me, i had a 2 hour nap today i was that drained and nackered, i look ill ?

Could there be a reason for such a drastic change? This is not normal for me whatsoever and scaring me abit. Iv had quite big clots too ?

You poor thing, firstly how old are you?
This was me 3 years ago, when I was 46 and my periods suddenly became really heavy to the point I was anaemic. I used to use maternity pads at work and had to change really frequently.
I tried transexemic acid which halved the bleeding but eventually I had a mirena coil fitted and haven't looked back. It took six months to settle down but I've not had a period since.
I would advise a visit to your GP, apparently it doesn't take long to become anaemic with heavy periods

I had a thought of being anaemic i will have too get it checked, i think ill go to the doctor first before i buy anything over the counter. How do they diagnose you?it was very shocking, its just completely different to any other period iv had and still not really settled

i had this ghastly problem which started in my early 40's. I tried everything and ended up having a hysterectomy and haven't looked back. As you are only 21, this isn't an option for you. The mirena coil didn't work for me but I'm sure your doctor will want you to try this first. Good luck. It's miserable.

Oh i forgot to reply about the coil. Iv previously tried it and hated it. It ended up getting stuck and the strings got lost so the doctor had too have a good reach around too get it out

Its not an option for me, and no I definitely want another child so ill just have too see what doc says.

Thanks pilates, yes very miserable. Hormones are extra high this time aswell, been a right snappy arse at DP and hes been nothing but nice. But i have felt slightly depressed, i only get like this with a bad period but this is extreme

If you're still like this tomorrow go to the doctors. There are tablets they can give you to reduce the bleeding.

It happened to me after I had my Mirena out. My GP was great. I was passing clots the size of sanitary towels (sorry tmi) and flooding everywhere. She kept a really close eye on me.

Is it possible you could be miscarrying? I hope you feel better soon, whatever the cause.

Eurochick that thought came too mind, as me and DP have been having unprotected sex. I mean i'm having major cramps but i don't know too what extent miscarriage pains are iyswim. The clots are TMI* like blood red but with white in them(?)

I have a friend who has miscarriaged before and she said the docs said its like a 'mini' labour so too speak. And these don't necessarily feel like labour pains. Not as bad anyway.

And thank you ill give a ring up tomoz, wasn't sure if it was me being dramatic or a doctors matter. What exactly do i say i have heavy periods sounds abit 'dramatic'

How would somebody even know who doesnt even know they're pregnant? I don't mean that in a funny way its a genuine question.

Get a menstrual cup - they're much higher capacity than tampons/pads and you can measure the flow. Useful for telling GP just how heavy it is.

Same situation, go see doctor just to put you mind at rest, it is scary and I felt unsure too, I waited three weeks to go to doc but when wish I had put myself first

Think i will Blue. Just very concerning as very strong painkillers arent shifting this pain or anything.

Why don't you discuss contraception when you see the doctor about your heavy period, kill two birds with one stone.
If it IS a miscarriage, contraception will stop it happening again. It can also help with heavy periods.
But really how busy do you have to be not to have time to chuck some condoms in the shopping trolley

I had hardly any pain when I had a miscarriage.just a few cramps but lots of clots.
anaemia is tested with a blood test by the way.
I would get to your GP tomorrow

AnotherEmma i was on protection, the depo injection but it has ran out about a month ago. And i havent got round too it as i needed to make an appointment and they only have certain times/days. Not a valid excuse but thats mine.

Will defo ring up tomorrow, how do you know for definite if you have had a miscarriage? This sounds ridiculous but are there tests ect?

More or less all my heart erupts used to be like that, along with 3 or more weeks of cramping pains, so I know what you mean!
Surgery for lazier ablation (I think it was!?) helped for a bit, depo injection turned me into a ranging psycho so alth helped with the periods wasn't a safe option! Coil has been a miracle for me, life changing indeed! Used to have transexamic(so?) acid and mefanamic acid painkillers prescribed, were only thing to touch the pain and reduced the clotting too, so maybe ask about those in meantime as any tests etc will probably take a while. Hope you sort it soon, it's a misery suffering each month

Crazy typo, should say all my periods not heart erupts?! My phone seems to leave in alternative universe!

I was on depo before it too, we seem to have a lot of same situation, I had message yesterday saying they want more blood and can't confirm anything yet
