Have been using Chloramphenicol eye ointment since last friday,my gp prescribed it for 4 times a day for styes because i cant get rid of them.
Today my eyes feel sore and dry and there has been no improvement ,so shall i keep using it or not?

Can he not give you a different drop, you can get fucithalmic drops. Ask if he can give you these instead.

30% of the population are allergic to chloraphicol but it is cheap and alot of drs prescribe it. I am allergic to it - I get severe burning in my eye when I apply it - and so do my children. Fucithalmic drops are gentler but not sure if suitable for a stye. I would stop the chlorapheicol and go back to dr as if there is no improvement no point in continuing. Good luck.
