Vertigo advice

I was woken up in the night last week with the most horrendous sensation of the room spinning really fast - it was terrifying. I then found i felt ok if my head was straight but if I tilt head or roll over in bed I am really dizzy. I have to sleep on my back. I went to doctor and and he said I had vertigo....prescribed Prochlorperazine tablets but I daren't take them after reading long list of side effects. Does anyone have any experience of using anti histimines instead? Or anything else that helped. How long were you signed off work for? I'm back at docs next week. :-(

Hi there, I've suffered with vertigo for years. It's hellish.

I would say I have mild symptoms most of the time but only two really bad attacks that have ever left me bed bound. As I've had it so long I have adjusted my lifestyle to make allowances so as not to bring on an attack. For example I no longer sleep in my left side. I try not to look down within ten minutes of waking up, I couldn't do a headstand (not that I would anyway but you get my drift), and I can't look under the sofa to look for something or go on fast fairground rides etc etc. Other than that...SadConfused.

If I feel an attack coming on I take Cinnerazine which is an anti sickness tablet you can get over the counter. I carry these all the time and have them in my bedside draw as well.

When I've had a bad attack it normally takes me a couple of weeks to feel anything like normal again, I can be bed bound for a couple of days, then I start to come round if I take Cinnerazine but I wouldn't feel safe to drive etc for a couple of weeks.

Hope that helps.

By the way if you do a search of the boards for dizziness or vertigo there are tons of very helpful threads. You will prob find I've contributed to most of them Grin

Thank you so much for your advice. Hope it's not going to be another health problem to add to my long list :-(
