have i broken my thumb?

Caveat I will be going to hospital but hate feeling like I am wasting time....
So slipped when getting out of the bath last night. Thumb &Palm of hand swelled immediately & lots of pain.
I iced it last night & by morning still but a bit less so. I can move it but sore. What do you think?

Could be your scaphoid, do you have any bruising? I broke mine after I tripped running up the stairs, bloody sore. I couldn't wear a hard cast so had it in a removable splint for 8weeks. I'd get it checked out.
I went to my local minor injuries clinic, after checking they x-Ray. Much quicker than a&e.

Definitely do not ignore this, I had a broken scaphoid which was missed and the scaphoid bone is now disintegrating as a result. It's quite hard to see on an x Ray straight away so you should be called back for them to check it is broken (I was sent home with a tubi grip and told it was a bit bruised). It was a long time ago now though so I'm hoping things have changed since then!

For suspected Scaphoid fractures an x ray is usually also done 10 days after injury as this is when a fracture is usually seen.

Just been seen - apparently badly bruised. No fracture. In a splint.

Bloody sore though!
