Gingivitis? Sore gums! Help please!

I have a condition called Ehler-Danlos which is essentially a connective tissue disorder, causing hyper mobility (I was the class bendy one!), joints dislocating etc etc, but also caused my gums to recede at the front bottom when I hit puberty, and periodically other areas since. It happened very quickly and I have always brushed my teeth religiously twice a day and have only two tiny fillings, despite being 37.

However, recently I have been completely freaked out by those TV adverts where the woman loses her teeth, and have been brushing twice a day plus using an alcohol-free mouthwash and even applying Daktarin (prescribed initially for a mouth ulcer) to the sore bits, but yet I now have three sore areas where once i had none! No bleeding, just soreness. I do try to brush (electric toothbrush) gently and appropriately so that i don't force the gums down further, but I just don't know what else to do?

Any suggestions? Don't want my teeth falling out! Gums very healthy elsewhere.

Is it possible that you are over brushing? This is really something that you discuss with your dentist to see what sort of shape they are in. If the worst comes to the worst with your gums and they recede too much there are specialists who can do grafts.

Try a Waterpik, they are really good if your gums are sore and get all the gunk out at the back of your mouth in between your teeth. Wish I'd bought mine years ago.
