How long are you infectious after a cold?

Friends and I are supposed to be going out for dinner tonight but I still have a cold that's been lingering for a week now. I mentioned this in passing to said friends and they said I should stay home, they don't want to get anything etc.

I was pretty sure that you're most infectious before you develop symptoms of a cold and for about 2-4 days after. Is this not the case? Obviously I wouldn't want to pass anything on to anyone but I can hardly quarantine myself for over a week either! I still have nasal congestion but no cough, temperature, chills or any of the more serious symptoms I had a week ago.

They are being a bit precious. If you are not running a fever and feel well enough to go out then go
