Perimenopause perhaps?

Hello good people,

After having a regular as clockwork 28 day cycle since early adulthood, I am experiencing for the first time ever an irregular period; it has arrived 11 days early. It has taken me completely by surprise.

Should I be worried? Could this be just a blip? Sign of menopause, I'm 44? Something sinister?

I'm 43 and that has happened to me a couple of times. Complete pain.

Upside is that my periods are generally shorter now.

My GP told me awhile back that extra bleeding/periods need to be checked out. Fewer periods are fine, but extra periods need looking into. Might be worth a trip to your GP to be on the safe side?
Having said that, because I had only had one really short cycle, and it was a few months before I talked to her, she said to come back if it happened again.

Quite possibly a v early blip before peri-menopause starts in a few years, I had exactly the same thing, then back to normal 28 days for ages and then another early one and then gradually shorter gaps in between became the new normal.

Thank you for the input :)

Mine are currently around 21 days apart, having gradually got shorter over the years - was around 26-28 days about a decade ago. Now 43; my mum & gran were both 45 when their periods stopped, so expect I will be around that age too.

I did see my GP & had my thyroid &'iron levels checked; they were fine. She did offer me the mini-pill or coil but I'm not keen.
