Long term effects of amitriptyline

Was wondering if anyone has been on amitriptyline long term? I am on 50mg a day and have been since last May after being diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. Neuralgia was horrendous so would rather be on medication long term than have the pain come back, but am not sure what the implications of being on it long term are? Would appreciate any of your views :)

There shouldn't be any to be honest! Been on 150mg for 11 years.

There doesn't seem to be any concern about long term use. Most conditions requiring amitriptyline do need it for the long term, sadly. After three years I can report that my side effects are very few and my tolerance has not increased meaning I have never needed to increase my dose.

Hope that helps.
