Irregular bleeding linked to breastfeeding?

Have been breastfeeding 14 months. Periods returned within 2 months of giving birth. Have been reducing breast feeds gradually. For the last month have mainly just been feeding morning and night.

I've had light bleeding between periods last couple of months, mainly after sex or going to the toilet.

It seems like this is obviously hormonal - related to breasfeeding. Does that seem a sensible assumption?

I've seen my GP a lot the last couple of years. I'd rather not go again if not necessary.

This does need checking, could you see the practice nurse for an internal examination? There are lots of causes for "intermenstrual bleeding", the first step would be to get someone to have a look at your cervix and check it looks healthy. And completely reasonable to see your Gp about. Is your smear test due?

Smear test is overdue but only by months and I have now booked it in for 4 weeks time. Hadn't occurred to me that the nurse could check more generally for problems.
