Help - infected big toe that just won't get better

Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated. DD1 has had infected big toe (not ingrowing toenail, but on nail bed) So far has had two lots of oral antibiotics, topical antibiotic and anti-fungal cream, none of which have worked. We thought it was getting a bit better last week, but now it's red and angry with a little white spot as well. The toenail appears to have stopped growing tool. She is doing GCSEs at the moment, so could well do without this malarkey!

This might sound ridiculous, but some years ago I read on a mumsnet thread bout Vick ( the stuff for chests) being a miraculous cure for toenail infections. I was sceptical but it really did work, and quickly. Have had a few recurrences, and they cleared up rapidly. May not be relevant to your situation, but very cheap - worth a try?

Epsom salts foot baths.....as hot as she can stand, evey night till it clears.

No ugg boots ever.

Have you been back to the Gp? Is she generally well in herself?

I am a nurse and with foot problems and infections not healing I would be considering ruling out other health problems such as diabetes.

Also is she having it dressed by a nurse? I would want to put some nadine on that.

If not healing may need referring to local hospital to have it lanced and properly flushed out (ouch) but would hopefully sort it out.

Tea tree oil, it comes in a spray bottle, spray every morning and evening. Worked a treat on my manky big toe nail.

Thank you so much everyone. girlie we are planning to go back to GP tomorrow if possible. Might get in supplies of Vicks, Epsom salts and tea tree oil as well! At least she doesn't possess Ugg boots
