I have always been a bit susceptible to infections and I had managed to go 3 months without getting sick until 3 months ago. I don't really know how much of it is connected so will include full history.
3 months ago I had a sinus infection - I was prescribed augmentin and it went away. Approx 1 month later I developed a bladder infection (it was agony) which I have never had before. I was prescribed augmentin and the pain went away and I assumed it was gone. Just over a week ago - almost 1 month after last infection I was lying in bed and got the worst pain in my bladder. I went to doc and he said the infection had come back. He prescribed nitrofurantoin and took a culture for the lab. It still hasn't cleared up - I went back today and the results of the culture are that it is a strep B infection sensitive to nitrofurantoin - even though said drug has not worked. I am also starting to feel really unwell which is probably because of the antibiotics.
He has just prescribed another antibiotic - clarithromycin. It looks quite heavy duty.
What I want to know is, is this normal for a bladder infection to be so hard to treat? The GP said they can be really difficult to treat, however, I am starting to wonder if it is my body which is the problem here as the strain of strep B is meant to be sensitive to nitrofurantoin.
