can fit notes be changed?

I have a fit note that ends in 4 weeks, my employer won't allow me back to work before then.
can my gp change it? or issue a new one? I'm sure I will be fine before that.

Why do you think your GP would say you should stay off work for 4 weeks if you would be fit to work before that?

If you are fine before that, go to the GP and say so. But don't be too surprised if they say that the nature of your illness means you should take the time to recover.

They are right to sign you off for the longer time if that's how long they think it is likely to take for you to recover - that way you and your employer can make your plans around that.

I think it's possible some people recover quicker than others. does anyone know whether they can be changed? I wouldn't want to waste the gp's time.
