Mum's wee very dark from midnight!

Mum told me she saw the doctor last week. Her wee is fine when she goes to bed, but she often gets up a couple of ours later and she's noticed is very dark and smells a lot - she says it gets better throughout the morning. Nothing has changed diet and drinkwise, she says she's trying to drink more water and has actually been having a glass in the night.

On top of this she has other symptons - feels she's getting a touch of heartburn, feels bloated at top of tummy, is getting a pain down her side and back and nausea - none of this is constant, just comes and goes.

Any ideas? The doctor tested a wee sample (but it was normal colour by the time she saw her) and took her blood pressure. Doctor doesn't think anything is wrong, but she's been told to go back in three months to have her blood pressure done again.

Does she take medication at night? Mine gives me bright orange wee the first few wees after I take it.

Everyone produces less urine during the night so it will be darker anyway.
It sounds as if she may not be drinking enough during the day.
Is she having around 6-8 cups of liquid- doesn't matter if it's tea, coffee or water?
She might want to ask them to test the sample again because if she is elderly urine infections don't always give that stingy feeling. Elderly people feel confused, tired and kidney infections can cause pain in the back and sides.

I think she should go back to the GP. Dark wee and pain at the top of the abdomen point to a problem with her pancreas. I'd ask for a CT scan sooner rather than later.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, she does take medication - for epilepsy approx 8pm and 8am. She's been on medication for approx. 60 years and the current type about 10 years - never had a problem before.

She's trying to keep her liquid intake up so is having approx. 1 tea, 1 coffee, 2 herbal teas and approx. five glasses water a day.

She does take epilepsy tablets about 8pm and 8am, has done for years and has been on her present type about 10 years.

moggiek, I've told her she needs to pester her GP if she's sure she isn't right. She reckons she'll phone early next week, so I will keep on top of that one.
