Can this be anything other than labarynthitis

A week or so ago I had a mild fever, sore throat and earache. Lasted a day or so.

Yesterday morning I kept complaining to dp that I couldn't hear what he was saying properly and that my ears felt blocked - like when you are at altitude.

On my way back from town I started to feel really wierd. Like my spatial awareness was off. I got home and I was having to really concentrate or the room would feel like it was spinning. If I moved the room would spin. I was desperate for the loo so had to move and that made me sick. I laid on the bed for 2 hrs barely able to move a few cm or the room would spin. After that it was better - I could move slowly. I was left with a headache too. I think I had a temperature too but didn't measure. Had a bit of a humming background noise all day too - thought that was a side effect of some medication tho.
This morning I have earache, still a bit light headed and room spinny if I move fast.

Could it just be a normal ear infection? Is it likely to be labarynthitis? That sounds not great and a bit drawn out.

I had labrynthitis recently. It was a bit like you describe but much much more severe. I was flat out for 3 days. Could not move. When i did the whole world went round. It felt like being seasick, on the waltzers with a hang over. It took 5 weeks in total for me to feel anywhere normal.

I still have some residual problems with dizziness and a whizzy head. I can't look up and turning over in bed is horrible. My GP tells me i have been left with vertigo.

It could be that your ear infection has given you vertigo?

Thank you. That gives me hope. I was properly floored yesterday for a couple of hours, but seem much better today.

Hopefully it is just a normal ear infection. I'm alreadybsigned off work with stress I can't really afford another week or two off.

It sounds much more like an ear infection than labyrinthitis. Labyrinthitis is all about the room spinning and not being able to move - you don't get the blocked ears and hearing problems.

It's possible you just have some fluid behind your eardrum, as you had a cold recently. OTC sudafed (not the one you can buy off the shelf, you have to ask at the chemist) may help. It can take a few weeks to go away.

Thanks guys.

I was only asking cos the inability to move yesterday was pretty wierd and scary and a new experience. A friend suggested labarynthitis and all those symptoms were on the list.

I don't recall having had an ear infection as an adult though. If I have I certainly haven't had the room spinning.
