Hi. I have just been diagonosed with fibromyalgia. Initially I felt relief that my symptoms finally had a cause but now the reality of a lifetime of managing this condition has set in. I have 2 young DC and a very supportive DH but I must admit I am quite fearful of the future with this awful condition. I work part time and it's a struggle on my bad days but needs must for now. I wondered if there are any other Mumsnetters out there living with fibromyalgia who could offer any advice. Maybe we could support one another? I find it difficult to explain the condition is its 'hidden' and some people don't understand. Thanks for reading.

Hi applejack,
I have Fibro & other conditions so just wanted to say hi .

It truly is a soul destroying illness so I am very sorry to hear you are suffering Thanks

The one thing I have found that helps is magnesium malate , I find I have less cramps & headaches plus it also seems to help with the fatigue a little .

Hopefully a few others will be along soon xx

I was diagnosed with fibro back in 2003/4. It's been a long journey.

I get relapses, usually every 3-4 months, usually the same times of year (thanks timehop!)

I've just had my first major one in years and am back on amitriptyline. Other than that I had got through pregnancies and newborns and working and uni not too badly, but I often go to bed at 8pm and say no to a lot of stuff. I recently started running and that helps.

Fibro is not a life sentence, it can be managed. Bad periods I use amitriptyline and in past I've used acupuncture to a great success.but many people don't know I have it, simply as I refuse to give in to it and fight daily.

And look at your diet. Cut down on sugar and carbs, they are a huge trigger for me. Take multivitamins. Sleep. Lose weight if you can/have any to lose. Make your body healthy, my relapses always coincide with awful diet relapses.

i was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago after 14 months of hell.
my symptoms first started after an illness feb 14.
first it was dx as post viral and side effects of meds (as i physically had began to fall apart)
then a rash appeared on my face , i had an urgent referral to rheum ,who ruled out lupus but dx fibromyalgia.
ive been referred to the pain clinic , physio (when i can manage it)and to trial
tramadol, amitryptiline and pregabalin.(not at the same time)
my vitamin d was also very low -15 and there was too much protein in my blood so i need to retest it in a month.
i dont know anyone else in real life who has this ,so also looking for some support.
