Rash question... if anybody is actually on here and not out watching fireworks...

ds (2.2) has a weird rash. I noticed some on his legs, he's been scratching something chronic, some on his lower tummy, his cheeks and chin and a couple of 'spots' on his arms.

First off I thought there were a few more moluscii coming up but it's defo not that.

The rash looks a bit like what babies normally get on their chees and chin due to excessive dribbling caused by teething.

He's a bit snotty so that might explain the rash on cheeks and chin, but the legs and tummy are a mystery to me.

He's fine in himself, besides the scratching, and is still bouncing off the ceilings right now despite it being well past his bedtime and 2 lots of horlicks!

Any ideas?

Allergic reaction to sthg? I once became literally covered in a rash within hours for no obvious reason, and it disappeared just as quickly - probably some bizarre one-off reaction to something.

Just to be sure it's nothing very sinister, do the glass test (press a glass against the rash - if it disappears it's not dangerous. That said, septicaemia rash doesn't itch).

but sounds like an allergic thing.....DS has had something similar a while back,....doc prescribed anti histamine medicine and a cream to soothe,...if scratching in the morning, mioght be worth a call to gp....

I've had allergic reactions in the past (mainly to antibiotics) and they always seem to follow a certain spread patter, i.e. inward out if that makes sense, itchy stomach, then upper legs and arms and then the glorious misrable rest.

Don't think he's hot... it was blimming freezing today and if he gets heat rash it usually is around his neck and shoulders as he's a sweaty little sod in summer.

Will to glass test in a moment, though when stretching skin the bumps lessen so guessing will disappear under glass test...

Argh he's just fallen asleep clutching his Thomas book, so won't wake him to get piriton int him. Shall have it at the ready for the night though

Allergic reactions aren't rational IME - the time I had that tremendous rash I had done and eaten nothing out of the ordinary. Once in a blue moon, without rhyme or reason, dh suddenly gets a slightly painful red rash on his hands (and nowhere else) that disappears after a few days. Had a bit of it tested and everything - no discernible cause. However, it'd definitely be worth taking him to the GP on Mon (A&E, of course, if glass test is bad news, but it doesn't sound like it will be).

same with my DS ....he was at the table waiting for supper and suddenly started scratching!! and did so for 2 days!!!

DD has had an urticaria type rash (hives, basically) that has come and gone all over her arms legs and face (but not torso) for about the last month. The GP reckons it's an allergic reaction to the string of colds she has had recently, and certainly every time she has got worse with a cold, the rash has come back up a day or so later. Has he been under the weather generally lately?

just rolled a glass over his leg. I think the rash is disappearing. There seem to be a few marks remaining but I think that's where he scratched. Phew. Though I shall keep a beady eye

Whatever your dh keeps getting soudns rather unpleasant! I've got one spot on my hand that in regular intervals gets so itchy I'd happily take a very sharp knive and scrape it over it so I can only sympathise with your dh.

I've just realised dh hasn't had the rash since I was pg with ds - maybe fatherhood has cured him

mrsflowerpot, your poor dd. I do get urtecaria with my hayfever so would recognise it in an instant. Mine's defo allergic but gets worse when stressed, tired etc.

ds has been generally fine in him self, abounding with energy and bouncing all over the place.

Hmmm was just thinking... we did 'start' him on horlicks on Halloween as it seems to help him settle and 'only' wake up twice a night. Could that be a potential cause? Then again I had noticed some rashy type stuff before halloween... so probably not related.

rash gradually getting worse, but pirton'ed ds up tonight. So much for that stuff making them drowsy... yeah right! NOT!!! Still had to try and pry his Thomas book out of his little hands at close to 2100!
