Anaemic? I went to the gp with fatigue, breathlessness and achy joints a few weeks ago. My haemoglobin had dropped from 11.7 to 10.5 (11.7 was from 8 years earlier though!).

Plus I'm 42 too... perhaps it's an age thing Grin

pigsinmud · 22/04/2015 08:40

Sorry me again. Have you been taking iron supplements over the past few months? I've been taking iron for 2 months (started before I went to gp as I suspected anaemia) and my haemoglobin is still down there. All those blood tests will just be routine.

Don't worry. There are a lot of simple, fixable health issues with your symptoms. IIncluding low iron. Are you taking a supplement? You should really. Have you had your heavy periods investigated? Don't just put up with them. Has the gp actually dealt with things or dismissed them? Fatigue is a bitch. A middle aged bitch if you ask my family ;)
Go in with a plan and questions on Friday about low iron.

thanks schilke , i have taken iron and and off last year , my doctor advised i take 3 tablets a day on the days i have my period to replace what i loose , my ferritin was 13 in feb , last yr dropped to 9 , but through many years always been low and 15 being my best reading ....
im eating and no weight loss , just feel so rough , but the worrying wont be helping i guess either ..

Have you had rheumatoid factor and ANA checked? Loads of autoimmune conditions have these symptoms. Many are very treatable.

gamerchick · 22/04/2015 09:01

Tbh I would take the liquid form of iron with vit c. Low iron will make you feel lousy. The liquid is a bit more kind than the tablets ime.

40slady · 22/04/2015 09:05

thanks , no havent had rheumatoid or ANA checked ...whats that ?

i have tried spa tone but was informed far lower iron content than tablets , iv been taking a immune support vit from chemist and take with 1000mg vit c fizzy tablet each day ...trying to help ...

ANA - anti nuclear antibody presence indicates immune mediated disease.
Have a look at arthritis UK at conditions such as mixed connective tissue disease, lupus, sjogrens. To name a couple.

kissedbyamoonbeammyarse · 22/04/2015 09:14

When I have been prescribed ferritin I have to take it every day. Not just during my period. I take it til my iron level improves. Otherwise it never improves. If your iron is constantly low, you will not feel good. Yes. Fatigue is a real thing. Caused by things like low iron. Stress will add to it.

40slady · 22/04/2015 09:21

thank you , im sure the low iron not helping , im just hopinh nothing sinister , heads jumping to bad conclusion ...thanks to me googling ..!
as far as im aware iv always had low iron for years and years ....always told because of my periods being fairly heavy ...
