I have woken up with conjunctivitis in both eyes. I've cleaned them and my visions ok but it's hard to see because there's so much goo and weeping.

I've tried the over the counter optrex all week and it's not worked. I've been careful with towels etc too.

I'm wondering about ooh because I can't drive with my eyes like this. It would be hard to do much tbh! My neighbour offered yesterday to take me to our nearest town. I live in the middle of the countryside and am on my own with the dcs. Dh is working away.

Just asking as its so early and I've no other adults to wonder with...! Do tell me if iabu to take up a ooh appt,

TIA!

Yes you need to go to the ooh today. Can the neighbour take you today? Sounds like your vision isn't good enough for you to drive.

Yes, lovely neighbours up and about and her dh will have the dc. It's the worry of not being able to function properly when I'm alone with the dc tbh.

Thank you for thinking it through with me :)

I think pharmacists can now prescribe for conjunctivitis. Of course, this depends on one being open near you.

MissSmiley · 19/04/2015 07:35

It's not hay fever is it? I developed it a couple of years ago having never had it before and I only get it in my eyes - sounds v similar. Someone suggested I tried antihistamine and within 20 mins they felt much better. Couldn't believe you could develop hay fever at my age.

Imnotaslimjim · 19/04/2015 07:36

Have you tried bathing with salted water? I had conjunctivits that developed into iritis, and that is what was suggested by the eye hospital. 2 tbsp salt to a pint of water, store it in the fridge. Swill each eye with an eye bath then wipe the gunk away with cotton wool

bangersmashandbeans · 19/04/2015 07:41

My DS recently had it and pharmacists can give out antibiotic eye drops now

confusedandemployed · 19/04/2015 07:42

You can get chloramphenicol OTC but you have to ask for it. The brand name is Optrex Infected Eyes and is the stuff ooh will prescribe for you. speaking from many, many past experiences

I hope it clears up. I hate conjunctivitis. Flowers

I've been using the chloramphenicol from the pharmacist all week and it's not worked. And salt watering with cooled boiled water too!

Thank you all-just waiting for neighbour now. Dcs are all fine and the ooh place opens at 9, it's a walk in first come first served.

:)

Hope they get you sorted

awfulomission · 19/04/2015 12:03

Thanks imnotaslimjim .

Home now, saw the nurse and I have the chloramphenicol ointment. She said not to carry on with the optrex but to bathe it regularly as you said. Also if it hurt too much to open either through bright light or vecause the lid hurt to go straight to a and e!

To go was the right thing to do, thank you. With luck it'll be better by tomorrow and I can drive. I work in a sn school for teen dc with emotional and behavioural difficulties and it's really hard to take time off.

My own dc are all "yuck it's gross!" Grin
