I've been bouncing around like tigger in recent months after years if low ferritin due to heavy periods, polyps etc. That's all sorted and I have enjoyed feeling 'normal' again. In fact I've been almost turbo charged and lost quite a bit of weight -so got my thyroid checked and all my bloods are normal.
But now I've had the most awful heartburn, gastric pain and croaky voice.Been told to take omeparazole,a small hiatus hernia was found several years ago when I had an endoscopy to investigate my anaemia and was given some then - but tbh never really needed to take it.
But this is really debilitating.Any ideas for meals, natural cures to speed up recovery? It's been almost a week and it's really getting me down.I know I've been overdoing it,and did some stupid heavy lifting last week as heavy loads of work done on the house.Thanks.

Try some Deglycyrrhizinated licorice. I got some from Holland and Barrett the other day when I had a bout of gastritis. You have to chew a tablet twice a day before meals (they taste ok). Worked really well and quickly for me.

Great thanks will get some on Monday. If this ever flares up again I want to have something in to nip it in the bud.Just done some googling and licorice is mentioned a lot so will get some licorice tea too if I can find some without mint in it as apparently mints a no-no.

i found peptac or gaviscon sort of works for me,
all the other meds like omeprazole never worked ,im seeing the consultant again soon as its driving me mad
through trial and error ive found that tomato, garlic ,fatty and onion based food the worst culprits/

I would avoid acidic and fatty foods and alcohol. Definitely give the wine a miss.

As someone mentioned before, tomatoes, peppers and citrus fruits, etc can exacerbate the condition.

I find that eating bananas and porridge during a bad episode is very soothing and manageable for the stomach. Also, make sure your last meal is three hours before bedtime. It helps with night time reflux.

Gaviscon should help to take the edge off your discomfort. I take the 'capsule' form of omeprazole, which is prescribed by my gp. It takes a couple of weeks to take effect really so you need to stick at it. It's not an overnight cure but in the medium term will help you get over this bad phase.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your replies. My usual weekday breakfast is porridge with berries and a big dollop of Greek yogurt but as it happens Jalopy I craved it with a banana this morning and yes it was very soothing.(and left out the yogurt just in case diary is making things worse)Also interesting that I should persist with the omeparazole as was going to take it just a week as I hate taking meds but I will carry on for a further week because whatever set this off it's been a really nasty flare up.I seriously couldn't even contemplate wine,or coffee at present but have to admit a lot of my recipes involve either garlic, onions or tomatoes so will have to leave the chilli in the freezer and plan some plain meals for a while. So frustrating and not helped by also having a heavy cold.Going back to GP soon also because I have lost quite a lot of weight in a short time and thyroid now ruled out.
