DS now has a cough and cold .. how can I protect myself from catching it IMPORTANT

twiglett, sorry no bright ideas, but do remember to practise holding your hand flat over your scar area before you cough - you're bound to want to cough at some time, even if you don't 'have' a cough. you poor thing, you've really been in the wars, haven't you? best of luck

Don't have much advice except take the maximum safe dose of vit c every day and take garlic capsules.

Can yoi take echinacia when pregnant? - if so I owuld definatly recomend it...has worked for me when whole house has been ill and I catch a cold in a flash...

Oh b***dy hell, last thing you need is your asthma flaring up.

If I'm in contact with a cold or I feel I'm getting one, I've been advised to increase my Brown Inhaler to 2 puffs x twice a day.

twiglett..i used Bioforce Echinacea during both pregnancies. (i own a health shop) the official company policy is not to take anything when pregnant, I think they are pobably just covering their backs!)I know lots of people who have used it.
your child can have it too (3 drops three times a day)

old wives and asthmatic cough tip
Freshly brewed or even instant coffee, strong brew and inhale the aroma, biazrre but it works by poening up the bronchioli somehow, I suffered with sudden onset pleurisy and pneumonia for several yrs, this kept me alive until I got on a ventilator.

I'm a little surprised...no one has mentioned washing your hands frequently. That is actually the most common method of catching a cold. You touch something that the sick person has snotted on/ coughed on/ touched and then touch your nose or mouth and bingo you've ingested the bacteria/virus. Sooooo....wash your hands (with soap and hot water) anytime you touch anything thing your ds may have touched before you then touch any part of your face with the "contaminated" hand. good luck.

Will they really stop you having a section if you have a cold. I had the flu when i had a section with dd2. I was quite ill too but they still did it.
I thought it only mattered if you were being put to sleep, are you ??

Have just realised that you may mean that you don't want to be coughing after just having major surgery. You'll have to excuse me, im muddled today.

No it's not ideal but you really won't burst open, honest. I had a terrible cough and kept sneezing. I was told to hold a pillow over my stomach. The physio that came around gave me alot of useful tips but i can't remember them now.
I'll have a think and let you know.

Hopefully you won't get it anyway

burn loads of tea tree and lavender oil to kill off all the bugs - might be good to do this when you come home from hospital too. Sorry you've had such a bad time during your pregnancy twiglett. Just wondered why the CS if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but washing your hands is one of the most effective ways to prevent colds from spreading....
