Does this graze look infected?

I fell over and grazed my leg on Thursday last week. Over the last couple of days the surrounding area has got hot, red, a bit swollen and sore. Does it look infected? Or is it just a bit of inflammation.

Looks infected to me. Is the red area getting bigger? Think you should monitor carefully. Do you feel OK in yourself?

Thanks, I don't feel particularly unwell just a bit of a sore throat which is more likely due to something else. It's no better this morning so I've made an appointment with the GP.

I think grazes are difficult to judge when it comes to infection as they have usually injured a larger area than just the scabby bit and the scabby bit often weeps liquid and looks rank!

Better to be safe than sorry - it may need a good clean.

I've seen my GP, she said its badly infected and I should have gone sooner. The only bit that was actual graze was the bit in the middle the rest is infection. She told me to draw round it to make sure it doesn't spread and to go back if it does. She gave me some dressings for it and two weeks of antibiotics.

Yes if it spreads then get back to the gp. My fil had flu like symptoms and redness on his arm and it spread (no evidence of a wound curiously) and it was necrotising fasciatius, we came very very close to losing him. Well done for going to the doctors promptly.

I had very similar a few years ago following scraping my knuckle putting together a toy! My finger was very painful a day or so later and like yourself had a sore throat which I put down to something else. I just happened to talk on the phone to my DM who decided she didn't like how I sounded and sent my DF up to get me and take me to A&E!

Turns out that I had a strep infection in the knuckle and had to have emergency op to clean out the bone/wound; so I would take it very seriously

tallula that sounds awful, hope your fil is okay now. Luckily for me the antibiotics are working and the redness hasn't spread, if anything it's reduced slightly.

Ouch cricketballs that's nasty, I'm glad I went and didn't leave it, luckily I think it was caught in good time I've still got another ten odd days of antibiotics so hopefully it will continue to work, my sore throat has gone this morning so maybe it was related.
