My ds has had chesty cough for 3 days now he's 22 months and asthmatic its not really a wheeze but a rattle!

I wouldn't yet. You'll know yourself if and when the time comes.

HuwEdwards · 01/11/2006 20:58

No temp and full of beans? No, wouldn't take him.

hairymclary · 01/11/2006 21:02

still, if he is asthmatic and he has had it for 3 days it's worth getting it checked out

DumbledoresFawkes · 01/11/2006 21:06

I hate to say it but most times I have mentioned chesty coughs to GPs (and that includes asthmatics as ds2 is asthmatic) they tend to say such things can go on for a couple of weeks easily. So that tends to be my guideline - 2 weeks - before I would go to the GP. Unless the child was obviously ill in other ways too, eg temperature, listless, off food, etc.

Would you double up on steriod inhalor or just leave things as they are we are at hospital on wednesday any way.

Hmm not sure on that point. You need GeorginaA here - she is my personal expert on all things asthmatic!

Could you ring the GP and speak to them on the phone just for advice on that point? Our GPs practically run on telephone consultations alone!

Crotchety · 01/11/2006 21:13

I would definitely double up on steroid inhaler - I always do whenever mine have colds of any sort.

chlochlo · 01/11/2006 21:17

perhaps i will ring gp tomorrow i always see the same one and he is quite good.
Not sure about dosage of steriod inhalor as its seretide so do i give extra flixotide or just extra puffs?

OP posts:
Crotchety · 01/11/2006 22:16

Have you got both seretide and flixotide for same child? Not sure about that - perhaps better wait for GP. Mine have salbutamol and flixotide and I just give extra doses of both.

chlochlo · 05/11/2006 08:14

Took him to gp who said there was a slight wheeze but just to keep an eye on him. But yesterday the wheeze got worse and even after 10 puffs of ventolin twice he still had a rough night should i leave him till tomorrow and see gp or do you think i should get advice today?? Have got a nebuliser at home for him do you think that would help???
