My 17 yr old dd sprained her ankle six weeks ago. She was seen at the minor injuries and had a x-ray taken which showed no fracture. However, her ankle is still slightly swollen, although there is no bruise, soreness nor redness. How long does it take for a sprain to heal?

It can take ages. SadAnd you do need to rest it, elevate it when sitting etc. I sprained my ankle badly some weeks ago - not sure when now, maybe 3 months ago. I was able to rest a lot. It felt better after 8 weeks, I think. But I do still have ligament pain. One of the nurses at the med centre did remind me you have to rest it like it's a fracture to begin with.

Thanks Topaz. She only rested for two days as she had exams at school. She too still have mild pain in her ankle. Yours took more than three months to heal so I guess her's still healing.
