CT Scan - how long until you get the results? Freaking out

I'm waiting for a CT scan due to an ovarian cyst with blood tests showing raised tumour markers.

The scan is to investigate whether I have any other tumours before they decide whether I'll be referred to oncology or stick with Gynae.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm guessing they'll need to analyse the results before telling me about it... so how long will I have to wait? Are we talking a few hours, or days or what?

I don't know how I'll cope with waiting, I'm so worried already Sad

Don't you have an appointment to discuss results? They had my results the next day at my appointment.

Fingers crossed for you. Thanks

I don't have an appointment for the scan yet - had my ultrasound and blood test results last Weds and the Dr said I'd be having a CT 'within a week' but of course we've got Easter in the way, so no idea when it will be.

Hopefully they'll send me a clinic appointment along with the CT scan appointment then? That would be good.

Need to know whether to take DH with me or not - if I'm just going in for a scan and then coming home there's no point in him coming.

Aaargh it's horrible!

And thank you Banana, it's reassuring to know that they can discuss the results as quickly as the next day. I had visions of having to wait a week! Fingers crossed I won't have to

The Radiologisr will write comments on the scan and these go to your consultant, so it will depend on how soon the Radiologist can do this and how soon the consultant/registrar can see you after that.
I have a scan next week on Monday and will see the consultant at his regular clinic next Friday. Always a worrying time so am glad I shall be at work so I can't brood on it all the time.

If they make you wait, then I'd probably take that as a good sign that nothing serious is wrong. So don't panic if you do have to wait, but don't take it the other way either, and panic if the appointment is quick. It probably does depend on the individuals concerned. And Easter will delay things.

The waiting is the worst.

Ok so I'll definitely have a bit of a wait - I won't find out immediately. That's good to know, I wouldn't want DH to waste a day off work to just sit there while I have a scan.

Good luck Lily. Yes I think going to work is the best option, saves you from Dr Google at least!
