Eczema on eyelids

I have got eczema on both eyelids, I don't usually suffer from eczema so not really sure what products to use on such a sensitive area. I have been trying for 2 days to get GP appointment without success & I don't want to take an emergency appt because clearly it is not an emergency just a bit irritating.

Can anyone recommend an over the counter cream to try?

Until you can get an appointment try a moisturiser to stop it drying out more. I have had this and a thin layer of oilatum (sic?) worked wonders.

I get eczema on my eyes. I would not put cream on. Your eyes may swell. Mine definitely would. Use a balm instead.

Lush ultrabalm is good... Even vaseline is better than a cream imo. Find something with the least ingredients and no purfumes. Or a light facial oil.

There is not much the GP can do as you cannot use steroid creams around your face, especially the eyes.

You can use a weak steroid- hydrocortisone 0.5% - on your eyelids under supervision from a dr. You cannot buy this OTC- only 1%. If you use it, use it carefully as too much and for too long will thin the skin and make it lined and crepey.

I'd not use mineral oil- eg Vaseline- as this is sometimes an irritant and will feel very sticky.

something from the E45 range might be better and there is a whole range- forgotten name!-might be Eucerin- but available in Boots in blue packaging, that is for skin with eczema.

Massive sympathies, I used to have this and it was torture. I used to mix weak hydrocortisone with something as mild as poss (eg aveeno) and put it on eyelids at night (so they would be closed). And put a cool (dry but refrigerated) muslin over my eyes to stop the sort of damp burning feeling.

My sympathies too, I get this sometimes and it's misery, especially since once it sets in it can be quite tenacious in my case (hope it isn't in yours.) I find I have to be really REALLY strong with myself not to rub/scratch the terrible itch, and I've always found any sort of cream inevitably seems to irritate it further.

I didn't know about face-suitable hydrocortisone, I shall ask the GP about it next time I get a flare-up, as a very infrequent light application of HC can stop a threatening burst of my normal eczema in its tracks before it takes a hold.

I just recently had a bout of blepharitis (itchy swollen eyelids) and tracked down the cause to some new eye make-up I was using. Could this be the case with you, Hiding?

I get splits in my eye lids. It is so painful as it stings like mad. Dr gave me low dose hydrocortisone but I feel. You have to be really careful so often put moisturiser on. I

My DS gets eczema on his eyelids and under eyes - the dermatologist prescribed 0.5% hydrocortisone a cream not ointment so that it absorbs quickly. Works well and is considered safe even for a one year old.

Thanks for the responses. I have bought some Eucerin for face today & am not wearing any eye makeup until it clears up. I have also thrown away my existing eye makeup & brushes in case that is causing it. Hopefully that should do the trick.

I suffer with optical eczema which results in under eye eczema when it flairs up. Someone on here recommended Body Shop Aloe Vera night cream and eye cream so I went in and got a sample pot and after 2 yrs of suffering it worked a treat.
