I've just found out that I have some placenta remains still retained in me after the birth of DD 9 1/2 weeks ago by c-section. The hospital has said that I need a "d and c" - what does this involve? Do I need general or local anaesthetic? How long does it take to recover afterwards? I'm waiting for an emergency theatre appointment but I haven't been given any info yet by the hospital as to what they will do to remove the placenta remains.

Hi,
a d & c, youll be knocked out via gas or injection, and they will dilate your cervix, and remove the matter. Youll then come round about... 30 mins later? Its fine, I was up and about within 2 or 3 hours.
