IBS questions.....

I'm new to all this so please bear with me.

I've recently been diagnosed with IBS (after 2/3 years of symptoms) although still undergoing some tests (colonoscopy, blood tests and stool sample results) and while I trust GP and to a point the Prof at the hospital I am concerned it may be something more sinister. My symptoms are pretty much constant and don't seem to vary with eating/not eating nor with different types of food.
From what I understand IBS is a very personal thing and everyone's symptoms are different I just have myself worried (thanks to google) that it could be something else/more serious
Symptoms:
Upper right abdominal pain under ribs (like toothache and is there 24/7)
Lower right side abdominal pain ( like ovulation cramps)
Abdominal tenderness
Constipation
Bloating
Lethargy
I currently take fluoxeteine (sp?) for this although it's usually prescribed for depression.

I have previously had mebeverin & amatryptaline but they didn't help much.

does anyone have any knowledge of IBS a and could put my mind at ease until my next hospital appointment comes through......

Hi have you tried cutting out foods like dairy and wheat?
My dp was diagnosed with ibs but this turned out to be wheat intolerance when he excluded it and symptoms disappeared.

Did they do a biopsy to check for coeliac disease when they did your colonscopy?

Sorry just re-read your post. Did you exclude foods for a good few days and were stringent about it?
If my dp has a few crumbs of bread or biscuits he's doubled up in pain and has the shits.

Try Linwoods ground flaxseed (can get different mixes), can get on amazon or health food shops. Put a teaspoon on food like yoghurt or musli or bake into muffins. It helped people with both ends of IBS (loose or bunged) and as ground it's not really noticeable on or in food.

I had severe IBS since early teens until I had kids (then it disappeared, not sure if due to lack of contraception messing with hormones or something to do with my bodies hormone change through pregnancy)

I had tests for celiacs and other intolerances at the beginning of my investigations but they were all negative.

I've had ultrasound x2 to check for gallstones -negative, a test for helicobacter-negative and also an endoscopy which showed some gastroenteritis (these tests were all approx 2 yrs ago)
Still waiting for the date for the colonoscopy Confused

Ill give the flaxseed a try-willing to try anything atm.

I wouldn't rule out coeliac at this point (I had a negative blood test for coeliac but I'm waiting for a biopsy for ongoing symptoms). Unfortunately the best thing you can do is carry on for now because changing your diet could give false negative results from your colonscopy.

Things that help me (with almost identical symptoms) are taking mebeverine a good 30 minutes before eating, minimising caffeine intake, drinking peppermint tea and hot water and a slice of lemon.
