Two of my fingers have been swollen & painful for around 6 - 7 weeks now. I initially thought i had chilblains as they were itchy too. On a GP's inspection, I was told it looked like eczema. That was a month ago. Symptoms persisted so i went back & my usual GP took one look & said it looks like Raynaulds. My fingers change colour according to temperature too. If it's really cold, they hurt a lot & can go purpley/blue to white or red when warm! They are still swollen. I've also been referred to rheumatology. Has anyone got/had the same thing & does it get better?!

Im surprised you haven't had more responses to this to be honest, I thought it was more common. I hear the heated gloves are very good

I've had this all my life, in the winter always wear gloves and have hand warmers with me (snap a disc and they heat up fast). I do try and keep my circulation moving in the cold, sheepskin boots to help stop chillblaines. Best of luck with your rheumatology app, do let us know how you get on.

I too have Raynaulds, associated with Low blood pressure which is common.

Avoid extremes of temperature, so wear good gloves as poppy says when cold, but also rubber gloves when washing up etc, as getting your fingers too hot can make them itch. Oh and use a good hand moisturiser.

I'm afraid you just kind of get used to it, because you know it's an annual thing - once the weather gets kinder it will disappear, and more then likely return in the colder months.

Your Rheumy will probably run lots of tests, but please don't panic, Raynaulds can be a symptom of other things, but its very rare.
I was offered medication, but refused, as i was told i would probably become dizzy due to a further lowering of my already low blood pressure - i'd rather have fat 'zombie fingers' a few weeks of the year.

Hi I had a thread about this last year. I suffer swollen fingers on my right hand never my left!! for some reason. I get black/blue/white numb fingers when cold and suffered itchy burning painful chillblains too. My doctor brushed it off several times till I asked to be referred to a rheumatologist after it being suggested on here. Anyway my rheumy confirmed it was a bad case of raynauds and asked me to take adalat which is a blood pressure tablet. I was told to take 2 a day between october and end of march but as I have low blood pressure and often feel dizzy I just took one tablet. I found this did the trick and when I stopped for a few weeks this year my swollen fingers returned!! So I went back on the tablet and fingers returned to normal, will finish the tablets next week as suggested. I find in the summer its generally fine but will get the odd time where I get numb white fingers or just one finger will be affected! I wear liner gloves and thick thermal gloves when out during the winter months. hth
