Mirena coil

I have had one for 3 weeks now, still spotting. Is this going to go on much longer! Also I feel really hungry, touchy and very emotional, is this a permanent thing too? I keep getting horrible twinges in my uterus which I really don't like. Am thinking of having it removed, any suggestions?
Thanks

IMO it's far too soon to consider having it removed. There are loads of threads on this. It does seem as if people fall into the love it or hate it camp but three weeks hasn't given it a chance to settle. Are you taking painkillers? It would be fine to do so. It really should settle but give it a few months at least. When the Mirena is good it's very, very good. I've had them for twenty years so I guess you can tell which camp I fall into.Smile

Hope you feel better soon.

I've had this with both of mine. First time spotting for 5 months before I had no periods for 2 years - yay! This time after 2 months of problems after fitting I have been prescribed Norethisterone which has stopped the spotting but still having mood swings, hunger etc which I hope will settle.

Hang in there - it's great when it works Smile

Thanks both. The spotting is dying down a bit, but I am still a bit confused by twinges and cramps. I do still continue to ovulate (is that right?) but the coil makes my uterus inhospitable to fertilised eggs? If that is right, I can still feel myself ovulate, so that's one twinge out of the way. I also get the odd period-pain-type cramp, does that correspond to when I would have had a period before? I had a real bout of pmt angst the other weekend and wonder if that is normal too?
Can you help?
