Hi, didn't want to leave this unanswered.
I have had 2 spontaneous pneumothoraxs in the past. I had the op around 7 years ago now and have not had a pneumothorax since.
I had a pleurectomy I think it was and a blebectomy.
If you have any questions I'll answer them as best I can. Smile
Hope your son is ok.

Hope your son is ok - poor thing. My DH had recurring episodes in his late teens/early twenties. Didnt seem to be triggered by anything in particular. Eventually he had the operation where they glue the layers of lung together (sorry, cant remember the name!) about 10 years ago and hasn't had it happen again since.
Various doctors told him that it's just something some young men are prone to, prticularly if they are tall and slim. How old is your son?

Your poor son, I hope they can sort him out. My spontaneous pneumothorax was thankfully just the once, and has never happened since (about 6years ago now). I did it by a fatal combination of movements mucking out a stable and twisting with a very heavy forkful of bedding to chuck it in the wheelbarrow, it hurt hurt hurt. I was a smoker at the time, maybe that was a contributory factor? Otherwise fit and well. The pain of that chest drain needle was really something else (they gave morphine pretty much on demand) so I can't imagine how it feels to keep having to go through the same thing over and over again.
