2 Saturdays ago stubbed my toe off the banister hurt like hell for half hour then pain eased off I work evenings so on my feet from 4pm till half 9 but this week I've found it hard to walk properly
Can't move last two toes and do get pain now and again after walking or standing for long periods
Went to docs this morning and was told yes it's possibly broken but there's nothing that can be done just painkillers and should heal in about 4 weeks
Is this right or should I head to a&e just to be sure?
Plus I took last night off work cause Of the toe plus finding it hard to walk with out limping am I right to put in a self cert for a week to rest my foot? Xxxx

I broke a toe and went to the GP for pain killers, she prescribed Naproxen but did send me for an x Ray just to ensure nothing further up my foot had broken, it was quite swollen. It was just a toe so the management was just pain killers and to tape it to the next healthy toe. Also sit with it elevated at the end of the day.

I think pain killers and your most comfy shoes are the key. My GP said 6 weeks too but I still felt some pain for about 6 months. I do walk a lot though, 2 dogs!

I've took the night off work and put in a weeks sick leave rest it still feels odd and sore now and again
Is there anything I should look out for other than pain ?
Thinking on going to a&e in a few days if nothing changes that's been 2 weeks now x

If the pain and tenderness is all in the toes, and not in any of the foot bones then x rays are often not done, unless the toes are looking deformed and so possibly dislocated. Normal treatment is to strap the toes, usually to a non painful one and take painkillers as needed. It is always helpful to rest if possible, but life does get in the way! They can be sore for upto 6 weeks. Swelling is normal as is bruising spreading up the foot.

Have you got a minor injuries unit you can go to?
I thought that they couldn't do anything with a broken toe and you are just left for it to heal by itself.

I broke my toe twice on maternity leave. First time I snapped it right off and it had to be manipulated back in place. Bloody hurt, I couldn't walk on it at all. It was strapped up and I had crutches.

Second time it was swollen but looked normal and I could hobble.. I just strapped it up myself to the next toe and took pain relief. Both times my foot was black and blue from bruising and both took 6 weeks ish to heal.
