Brown discharge - hypothyroid connected?

I am hypothyroid and just started medication to try and bring it under control. Could the hypothyroid (severe) cause abnormal brown discharge? Sorry for tmi but today I noticed for first time a small amount of brown discharge which I have never had before. Previous smear was 18 months ago and normal. Should I go to the dr?

I would check it out with your gp. I am hypothyroid and haven't heard of this particular symptom. I know thyroid problems can effect your periods. This sounds like an expulsion of old blood. Probably just your body cleaning out the womb but best to check any unusual discharge with the doctor.

Very unlikely to be related to thyroxin (which I assume is what you're taking?) unless your periods had stopped due to under active thyroid and medication has kick started them again. I also have UT and as far as I'm aware thyroxin isn't a drug as such - it's a synthetic version of something you should produce naturally so there shouldn't be side effects if you're on the correct dose.

But I am not a GP so you absolutely should speak to yours if you're at all concerned!

Good luck with the thyroxin - it makes you feel heaps better very quickly Grin
