I had root canal treatment on a molar last year and have not yet had it crowned. I know I should get it crowned because the tooth has already broken twice since having the root canal but I'm an NHS patient with a tax credit exemption AND I'm allergic to the metal dental fillings that the NHS provide. I get white dental fillings on the NHS and they are fine but apparently white crowns aren't covered by the NHS on molar teeth so I would have to pay somewhere in the region of £350 for a ceramic crown, which I simply can not afford.
I guess my question is can I get a white crown done on the NHS due to the fact I am allergic to metal fillings? It seems somewhat unfair that I should have to pay £350 because of an allergy I can't do anything about.... Also if I don't get it crowned it looks like I will be losing the tooth farly soon as it feels very weak and brittle, which I really don't want to happen :/
