Hello all. Wondering if any kind souls can offer some advice?
I am 34 and have been fit and well all my life, have a DS aged 2

Recently (for the last 3 months) I have en feeling quite unwell and my main symptoms are a burning, shivering feeling all across my back, it's really strange, it aches to the point where I need to take painkillers (but it's not back pain iykwim ) with this I feel tired, shivery and cold and have hot sweats at nights.

Has anyone had anything similar or could offer so e advice? I have been to GP last week and they have arranged for me to have a blood test next week but the GP didn't know what it was. I'm just getting so fed up with it, the burning feeling is awful and I'm taking ibuprofen every night to help me sleep.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you have inflamed stomach (gastritis) it can cause this sensation at the back. Is it like being nudged by someone kind of. If it is, the ibruprofen will make it worse by irritating stomach lining use paracetamol instead. Do certain foods seem to make it worse? Try some panteloc over the countet from the chemist to reduce stomach acid and see if that helps. If it does tell the doc that.

Thank you for your reply sadie - no it doesn't seem to be linked to food or anything I eat, I don't have an inflamed stomach or anything like that, and the ibuprofen doesn't seem to irritate my stomach.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

shingles??? no always a rash, although rash can also appear a long time after the symptoms.
i've just had it on my face. was also burning and bit itchy on and off. when the rash came out i had deep shooting needle type pains

I didn't even consider shingles perfect but I thought that affected the face and my pain is across my back? Don't know, it could be Shingles but the GP didn't bring it up as a possibility last week. I've had the burning pain on and off for a few months, it gets better for a few days and then worse again

Shingles was my first thought too - it's quite common on the trunk, although it tends to be in a patch on one side.

slalomsuki · 15/03/2015 21:17

Sounds like the shingles symptoms I had for a few weeks before the rash appeared. I used to comment to people the it felt like someone was tickling my back when no one actually was. The good thing was that when the spots did come I caught them early and was given antivirals.

Boomf · 15/03/2015 21:32

Shingles is what it sounds like. It's a very painful 'nerve' pain?

ScrumpyBetty · 15/03/2015 21:34

Wow, shingles never crossed my mind. I'm booked in at the GP for a blood test on Thurs, should I go back in sooner and ask about Shingles? I'm surprised the GP I saw last week didn't consider Shingles
slalom what other symtoms did you have, I'm just super tired all day and also shivery cold but hot at night.
Thanks for replies xx

Shingles is my first thought too.

Shingles ' burns' and it feels like it's running along your nerves. It just plain HURTS but you don't necessarily see anything

perfectmummy · 15/03/2015 21:53

mine didn't get really painful until the rash arrived. I had been fobbed off by the GP twice and given hydrocortisone cream which was making it burn even more! Told to wait another week but went back after 2 days when the pain became really bad. Was then given anti virals which seem to have caught it in time as it didn't spread further.
Think you should push for anti virals to knock it on the head now

My shingles were not painful until the rash arrived which is my case was across my front in to my arm pit on the right which then led to two weeks or so walking around with my arm on my hip or head.

Other symptoms before the rash were similar to a bad cold like feeling ie shivering during the day, feeling warm and sleepy and not getting comfortable night. I was working right up to the day the rash appeared as I thought I just had a bad cold but on the day the rash appeared I was knocked out big time. I even fell asleep in the doctors waiting room.

Saw a doctor this morning, I was nearly in tears due to feeling so poorly and the burning sensation on my back so bad. The GP was really dismissive, said it wasn't shingles and was probably a trapped nerve, she prescribed rest and paracetamol. So have today off work and will see, hopefully rest will help.

Thanks for all of your replies
