PMS is out of control

I don't think I'm generally a horrible person, but I turn into one about 5 days before my period. I didn't use to be like this (or as bad) but I'm finding it quite scary.
Tonight I raged at oh then couldn't stand to be near him all evening. I feel like an abuser.

What can I do?

Well at least you have recognised the problem. You could keep a diary just to make sure that is what it is.
You can go to your GP for an opinion and there are plenty of natural solutions on offer.
However, what ever is up with you it is not your OHs fault and he shouldn't be used as a whipping boy as it isn't fair on him.
I think a course in Mindfulness would help you as well. It would help you keep calm and think before you get snappy.

Take Evening primrose oil capsules 14 days before your period. Also vit b6 and b complex, magnesium, zinc, vit c
I used to get terrible black moods and tempers starting about 14 days before my period and miraculously disappearing when I got my period. I'm post menopausal now. I went on a trail at St Thomas's hospital and this is what they recommended I take and it really helped me.

I've had the same problem, which has got worse post-kids and post-30. I take vitamin B6 and it has made an improvement to my mood, even my DH has noticed.

Thank you, I'll try the vits/supplements. I just feel this incredible rage that scares me, almost like I'm having some kind of breakdown. Things are slightly better today. I've noticed it for the last few months, because it's fairly out of character I actually remembered where/when it was and sure enough it's about 5 days before my period each time.

MUMSNET wasn't around when I had PMT. I wish it had been as for a few days I turned into a witch. I am supposedly an intelligent woman, why didn't I recognise what was happening to me?
The whole thing made me feel so miserable and i made everyone around me feel miserable as well.
I used to be like a firework. The smallest thing would set me off and I felt unable to stop the vitriol coming out of my mouth. It would lead to my grovelling and apologising, to my nearest and dearest and feeling thoroughly ashamed.
I think Evening Promrose and B6, helps but it is obviously some sort of hormonal thing as when I eventually menustrated I felt peace wash over me in a wave.
I felt just like you post. Aw!
I don't know how well enough the problem has been researched but I think it should be and a solution found.

I could have written your post. I've started acupuncture as I had to come off the pill and anti depressants which were treating my PMS to ttc and it's worked immediately on my first cycle. I'm on my second cycle now and all good so far. Hope this helps.

I suffered horrendous PMT, would feel so low every month, like a hole I couldn't get out of. Tried several vitamins for years.
I got the doctor to put me on the depo provera injection, because I just couldn't cope with it anymore. I no longer have any problems.

I have an app on my iPhone now that helps me - my problem is anxiety just before my period starts. It can be overwhelming. I can look at my phone at as silly as it sounds calm myself down by telling myself it's just my hormones.
If you can identify the worst days then you can prepare yourself for it.
I have also heard, as a previous poster mentioned, that evening primrose is good.
I hope you feel better soon Flowers
