Tonsillitis-bloody-itis - what now?

This is such a long drawn out story, sorry in advance.

Had Tonsillitis - didn't got to Dr as have had it before (and had a course of antibiotics at home - which had been given as a back up for something else but didn't need and have taken for tonsillitis before - erythromycin)

Half way through course started having bad reaction to antibiotics, phoned Dr who suggests half doses, tried that, no luck, tonsillitis much better so on her suggestion stopped altogether.

Tonsillitis returns a few days later - go to Dr, prescribed 3 day course of Azitrhomycin. Complete course. Feeling mostly better.

A week later very sore throat on one side but no sign of pus etc, went back to Drs, he said very inflamed lymph glands, no treatment.

5 days later (now) tonsillitis is back, pus in throat, very sore, headache, stiff neck etc

Do I go back to the Doctor? This just seems ridiculous, back and forth and can't shake it off completely. Or shall I just let it run its course?

Am mightly pissed off with the whole thing. Grump.

I've had almost exactly the same thing as you, 3 weeks ago!
Awful sore throat, agony to swallow, temp., headache, stiff neck, swollen sore ears, swollen mouth and gums, sore/tender throat on outside too...drinking iced water to numb throat was the only relief I got...even strong painkillers were not helping.
Reluctantly went to GP after 4 days and nights of no sleep, feeling absolutely horrendous. Prescribed Amoxycillin....took first three and had 12 hours of feeling better then developed an allergy (latest in a long line Hmm ) abandoned course (on GP's advice), throat got worse again, went back to GP after weekend and was prescribed Erythromycin, didn't work very well, but got Ultra Chloraseptic spray and Tyrozets pastilles from pharmacy and limped on with gallons of iced water.
After the course of antibiotics had finished, I still had the bad throat but so much wore on one side than the other and mega ear ache on that side too. I had no pus, but I think that was for two reasons, I have had my tonsils removed, so nowhere for pus to be, and, prior to tonsil op I was always told to eat solid food like toast to 'scratch away' the pus....agony, but works!
Only the last two days my throat has been completely back to normal, although my ear is still a bit sore, but it has been three weeks of agony.

I am sorry this isn't much help to you, but have you tried throat pastilles like Tyrozets? or the Ultra Chloraseptic? They numb the throat, available OTC, Strepsils didn't work at all for me, jut made my tongue sore.
Maybe you could ask your GP for a different antibiotic, I am limited now to Erythromycin as I have reacted to two other types, but my GP said Penicillin was the drug of choice for throat infections.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Blimey froglets that all sounds very familiar. I have been ok eating, anything hot or cold usually numbs it long enough to eat. It's just my throat/neck is soooooo sore all the time .
I did manage the Azithromycin but wonder if I need longer course? I'll try the chloraseptic, good idea! At the moment I'm on a cycle of ibuprofen/paracetamol which works to a certain extent but I'm sure isn't good to take that for too long.
