Wisdom teeth extraction

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed under GA on Tuesday. The lower two were impacted with one at a particularly awkward angle. Op was fine but a few hours after getting home a blood clot from the trickier lower one came out (sorry TMI!) and it started bleeding so badly I had to go back to hospital, where the dental nurse informed me that the stitches had come off and I needed more. Then went home where it continued to bleed for hours, and finally stopped.

Two days on and it hasn't bled since and seems to actually be healing - I've carefully brushed my other teeth After meals and held a hot salt water rinse in my mouth four times a day as instructed and only eaten very soft foods. Have been taking ibuprofen/paracetamol at the recommended intervals so pain is manageable.

The biggest problem I'm having, which is making me feel a bit ill, is the VILE TASTE that's constantly in my mouth, even though I've been brushing/using the salt water mouth wash after everything I eat, and have been drinking plenty of water. It's literally a disgusting bloody, infecty type taste, and it must also be smell-able (luckily I'm off work so only DH has been subject to it!).

Does the taste/smell sound normal? Or does it sound like a possible infection?

Definitely sounds like an infection or at the very least something is wrong.

I had similar wisdom teeth removal to you under GA, salt gargling etc. Had no problems of the sort you describe at all.

Make an urgent appointment to see your consultant/surgeon.
